Creative Business: Balance

For the first two years of my business, I was working full time as a physical therapist and spending all my nights and fringe hours working on my art. I would get asked all the time how I “balanced” it all - and the truth is I never had a good answer because I didn’t have any existence of balance to talk about!

Until I met Shanna…

Shanna shared a brilliant strategy with me, the TIME BANK (TM).

It’s really true, we have the same amount of hours in the day as Beyoncé.

When we can step back and look at our time as a bank of money, we can choose where, when and how we spend our time.

I now practice regular working hours and it is a game changer. This generally looks like 10-6. I have a lunch break, time to work out, time to make dinner, time to spend with my husband… But it wasn’t always this way.

Lesson 4 Homework:

Take a look at your week and how it roughly looks on a regular basis. What work tasks and life tasks do you have?

Pull up google calendar, a cute planner, or my personal favorites - a white board or large piece of paper on your wall (I’m a visual/physical learner if you couldn’t guess ;-) ). Block out your schedule for life, and then block our your schedule for business.

What is realistic for you to achieve in the 24 hours we have in a day? Remember you need SLEEP.

This is the key: CLOCK IN & CLOCK OUT. Everyday. Stick to it. Don’t respond to emails outside of office hours. I use the boomerang add on to gmail for this.

If you don’t already know, my friend Shanna put together a free mini workshop “BRINGING BASICS BACK” that will help walk you through all of this and more starting January 7th!

If you were in the class last year, you know how amazing she is. She re-vamps it every year, so I always like to jump start my new year with her fresh guidance and business wisdom! You can register here.

Be on the lookout for my next email for lesson 5 tomorrow on OUTSOURCING!

xx,

Katherine
