Inspired by a "gathering" of friends and family after hiking the Platte Plaines Trail in northern Michigan.

Hey you guys!

I am thrilled to share with you some details and inspiration behind my newest series "Gather". I've painted in this small biz for just over a year and it has been a process of self growth, as an artist but also as a human. My style and technique has evolved and I am learning how to balance the different "baskets" of life if you will (more on that later)!

*sidenote: sometimes I feel like Lindsey Lohan in Mean Girls and just want to exclaim "the balance does not exist!"

As many of you know, I did not formally attend art school. Rather, the majority of my art education took place between the ages of 3-18. I feel lucky that my public school system had fantastic support for the arts, and my mother (who does have her BFA) was a great supplement to that education - and still is!

However, in the past year as I've delved back into painting, I've struggled to find my own style and technique, and I really feel like Gather is the most honest expression of myself thus far. So on that note, I am proud to further explain...

What GATHER means to me:

Celebration, relaxation, conversation.

Coming together.

Sharing emotion, food, laughter, ideas...

I could go on! And no that is not a haiku... just the first things that come to mind when I think of the word.

This summer I've been snapping photos whenever I'm in a situation I want to savor and hold onto. Those moments where I'm reallyyyyy trying to be present. Usually that looks like long beach days or weekends roaming the city with friends or family.

(My personal favorites are the days that we spend the entire day at the beach and are having too much fun to leave and shower so we order pizza, watch the sunset, and don't leave until dusk.)

What you can expect and when:

Great question! I am still figuring out the exact number and release date, however this is what I'm thinking so far...

Some 11x14s, 16x20s, 16x16s...

Maybe some diptychs?! (a painting spread across two panels)

Maybe more?! Let me know in the comments if you have other sizes you would be interested in!

Now as far as the release date, I'm thinking around Thanksgiving would be fitting, since the name is Gather and all... Maybe some sort of Cyber Monday or Black Friday situation.

The first three paintings for the "Gather" series!

The first three paintings for the "Gather" series!

As always, my goal is for my art to complement the life and love in your homes. I hope that these paintings may remind you of good meetings with your own family and friends. Or perhaps you transport to the painting and feel included in the laughter being had that day.
